New Year Challenges Instead of Resolutions
I’ve talked before about how I don’t do resolutions at the New Year. In my experience, resolutions don’t stick because they are often lofty goals, based on some dream reality.
But this year, I came across the idea of a new year challenges. I like this idea better than resolutions. A resolution is like a chastising promise to ourselves, which often requires a redefinition of who we are in order to work. Whereas a challenge doesn’t ask us to change who we are, but to try to rise above and up our game. Plus, having a challenge is like a game. The goal may ultimately be the same, but the approach is healthier and has a good chance of working well.
Here are some ideas for challenges that I’ve found. Maybe they will inspire you:
1) The TBR challenge: Challenge yourself to read more books than you buy this year, and chip away at the ToBeRead pile.
2) The Power of Less Challenge: Change or create a habit by challenging yourself to commit 10 minutes a day to the new habit.
3) The Dream Journal Challenge: Challenge yourself to write down your dreams and get to know yourself better.
4) The Go Green Challlenge: Challenge yourself to keep track of your trash and recycling for a year and see what your waste patterns are.
5) The Spark Challenge: Challenge yourself to join an online team and lose weight together.
6) The Shooting Challenge: Challenge yourself to take an interesting picture every day.
Have these challenges inspired any ideas? What do you want to do next year for yourself and with your family?

Years ago I resolved not to have resolutions. I didn’t have a word for what I do, but I think challenge is good.
I’m caring over my challenge from last year to Do Less. There were still days that I didn’t think I was doing less last year. I do like the direction my life is going. So I’ll continue Doing Less.
I do like some of you suggestion and will be considering if any fit in my Doing Less challenge.
