Homeschoolers Make a Bit of Money Working for the Census Bureau
This is a unique opportunity for homeschoolers, both parents and older teens, to earn a little bit of extra cash in 2010 from the national census. This is a message from our statewide email list.
If you or your older kids are looking to make some extra money this year, you may want to consider becoming a census worker. The 2010 census is currently testing applicants who are at least 18 years old for hiring in January, February, and mostly March for part-time temporary work which will last no longer than until September. The pay is roughly $17/hr and the work consists of following up on census forms in your local area (within one mile of where you live), mostly evenings and weekends since that’s when people are home. If you’re hired, you’ll complete a four day paid training. Hiring is based on test score, veteran status, bi-lingual skills and availability to work, and they do run a background check.
I checked out the website, contacted them and took the test last week. It was pretty easy and very similar to the on-line practice test. I don’t know anything further about it, (and I don’t get anything for posting this), but I thought I’d share since it sounds like a good opportunity for some supplemental income, and the hours would not interfere with teaching our kids.

This looks interesting. Thanks for posting.
I think it is awesome to be able to work from home and homeschool my kinds at the same time. I work for http://www.tenantscreeningbackgroundcheck.com as a private investigator and it is now pretty much all online. Another one of my friends is also just getting her business started with an infomercial company http://infomercialwinners.com/ where you can build a business with tv customers. It is a tough economy but there are numerous awesome opportunities available.
