UK Homeschoolers Facing Seriously Bad Government Regulations

15 June 2009 No Comment

498916_punk_is_backA UK-wide recommendation to highly regulate and “oversee” homeschoolers is garnering overwhelmingly negative reactions from the homeschooling community.

It’s hard to know what’s really going on since we are so far away here in the US, and we only see what’s in the news (and on a few blogs). So I did some searching around to see where I could get the best information.

This blog, called Dare to Know is the best I’ve found. It has a complete summary of the recommendations (very scary). It has commentary and discussion about what homeschoolers there are doing to combat these insanely overbearing recommendations (which are supposed to take effect as regulation in the very near future). It also has a great post of many of the news stories published about this recommendation and how pretty much everyone thinks they stink.

I wish there was some way we can help the UK with this mess. Probably, the best thing we can do is simply send supportive thoughts their way. And we should watch. And learn. They have big fight on their hands, and what they do over there can be a chance for us to identify how we can be ready for when and if it’s our turn in the future.
