Homeschool Makeover - #2

1007380_key_to_successWhere does success come from? Make a short list of what you consider to be the essential traits of successful people.

When we think of education, we often think solely about the details of everyday learning. But the big picture of education is to give us the tools to be successful in life. In order to give our children the best education possible, we have to have a clear vision of success.

Take a moment to make a list, a mind-map, or a character profile which depicts a vision of success. Does your spouse and do your kids have the same vision?

There are several books about what makes people successful. Have you read any of them? Do you agree with them? Often times hearing what other people consider to be success can help us come to a better understanding of how we see it.

Question #1 - Where will you be a year from now?
Question #3 - What is the role of failure in learning?
Question #4 - What is the role of enthusiasm?
Question #5 - What was your education like?
Question #6 - Assessing our tools.
Question #7 - Are you happy?

Success is not defined by the culture or society around us; it is different for each person.

The success of my children’s education is they are doing what they love, they love people, they have faith in the God of their family, they are passing on success to the next generation.

Success for me various all the time. During a time of crisis, success might just be pushing through it. During time of joy, it is savoring it. Right now, success will be doing less so I can enjoy where God has me.

dang… that gets so tricky! the “spouse and kids” part.

i am freaking lucky to have a wifey who doesn’t necessarily get what i do, but trusts me. even moreso, when i goof it up, she trusts i will do whatever i can to make it right.

kids follow our lead, but i try the best i can to keep it as loose as possible… only guiding as needed. i’m a UBER-believer kids get it, and traditionally unlearn their imaginative excellence from watching grown-ups who’ve forfeited and passed along such packs of lies as they were given.

harsh? sorry… i can candy-coated colorize it, as i was brought-up if need be…….. meanwhilst, thanks again, Tam, for another gem!

Success is most definitely a subjective thing. One person might consider himself successful if he has a job, a roof over his head, and 3 square meals a day. Another might define success by having a million dollars in the bank or driving a Ferrari. My own personal definition of success is the following: “The ability to live your life the way you want to.” Since everyone is different and therefore chooses how to live his or her life, it seems this is a more objective approach to a subjective issue. What do you think?
